Mrs. Laura has been working with children since 1998.  She has worked at BLC West since 2003.  During her time at BLC, she has primarily worked with four and five year olds.

Mrs. Laura has a B.S. in Early Childhood Education and Intervention.  As a teacher, she has several strengths in the classroom.  She encourages children to think for themselves and work together to resolve conflicts.  Mrs. Laura also uses positive reinforcement and tries to avoid dwelling on the negatives.  She also uses hands on learning techniques.

There are several unique and special things that Mrs. Laura includes in her classroom.  The classroom is divided up into six areas called centers.  They include computers, floor activities, reading, dramatic play, manipulatives, and art/writing.  She feels that the centers provide a platform for learning and using hands on activities.  Mrs. Laura also incorporates Spanish into the classroom.  The Spanish language is taught during calendar/group time.  The children in her class learn numbers up to 31 (correlating with the calendar days).  They also learn the Spanish names for body parts and colors.  Lastly, Mrs. Laura has a child of the week.  The child that is chosen for the child of the week gets to do several special things.  The child of the week traces his/her body onto a large piece of paper.  They get to decorate and draw their features.  The child also brings in items from home to share with the class and they get to sit in a special chair during group time.  The child also usually makes a poster with their parents with pictures and other interests to hang up on the door of the classroom to share with everyone.

Ms. Paula

Ms. Paula has been working at Burgett's Child Care Center since June of 1977.  She has worked with three and two year olds.  She is currently teaching the youngest group at BCCC, which is between eighteen months and two year's old.

Over the years, Ms. Paula has done many things to continue her education.  She has attended seminars and workshops on childhood matters.  She is currently working on her CDA.

One of Ms. Paula's greatest strengths as a teacher is that she goes to work nearly everyday.  This provides a stable and comfortable environment for the children, which is especially important with our very young students.

Ms. Paula is also good at communicating with the parents.  She tries to let the parents know many things about their child's day.  Everyday she posts a note on the door that talks about what the kids in her class did that day.  This is very important because some of the young children aren't communicating all that clearly at this point.

Ms. Paula loves chocolate!!
